Online Blackjack Variants Explained
"Blackjack" is really a family of games, and the variant you pick changes the rules, the payouts and the house edge. This is where most competitor pages stop at three or four names — here is the full offshore library, with what makes each one different and who it suits.
Classic Blackjack
The standard game: reach 21 without busting, beat the dealer, blackjack pays 3:2. Usually dealt from 6–8 decks with the dealer standing on 17. The baseline every other variant is measured against, and a safe first choice.
European Blackjack
The dealer takes only one card face-up and draws the second after you act (no "hole card" or early peek for blackjack). Doubling is usually limited to 9–11. The delayed hole card nudges the edge up slightly versus a Vegas peek game.
Atlantic City Blackjack
Eight decks, dealer stands on soft 17, late surrender allowed and double-after-split permitted. The player-friendly rule set keeps the house edge near 0.35–0.45%, making it one of the better multi-deck games online.
Vegas Strip Blackjack
Four decks, dealer stands on soft 17, you can double on any two cards and split up to four hands. A generous, forgiving rule set with a low edge — a favourite for straightforward classic play.
Single Deck & Double Deck
Fewer decks mean a lower house edge — single-deck 3:2 blackjack can drop to roughly 0.15–0.30%. Watch the payout, though: many single-deck online tables quietly switch to 6:5, which wipes out the advantage. Double deck is a close second-best.
Blackjack Switch
You play two hands and may swap the top two cards between them. In exchange, dealer 22 pushes instead of busting and blackjack pays 1:1. A fun, strategy-rich variant once you learn the trade-offs.
Perfect Pairs
Classic blackjack with an optional side bet that pays when your first two cards form a pair — bigger payouts for suited and coloured pairs. The base game is standard; the side bet carries a much higher edge (see side bets below).
Blackjack Surrender
Lets you forfeit half your bet and fold a bad hand rather than play it out. Used correctly against a strong dealer upcard, surrender lowers the overall house edge — one of the few "give up" moves that is mathematically correct.
Infinite Blackjack
An Evolution live-dealer format with unlimited seats — every player is dealt the same starting hand against one dealer, so tables never fill up. Comes with optional side bets (21+3, Hot 3, Bust It). Great for busy peak-hour play.
Free Bet Blackjack
The house gives you free double-downs on hard 9–11 and free splits on pairs. The trade-off: a dealer 22 pushes all remaining bets. High-action and beginner-friendly because the doubles cost you nothing.
Lightning Blackjack
A live game-show style variant with random "lightning" multipliers of up to 25x applied to winning hands, at the cost of a lightning fee added to each bet. Standard blackjack rules with a big-multiplier chase layered on top.
Power Blackjack
Pragmatic Play's live variant that lets you double, triple or quadruple down on any first two cards, and re-split up to three times. Dealer 22 pushes. More aggressive doubling for players who like to press an edge.
